KARATAY MUNICIPALITY ALSO SIGNED EXEMPLARY STUDIES WITH ENVIRONMENTAL SENSITIVITY IN 2022

Karatay Municipality carries out important projects on "Zero Waste", which includes preventing or minimizing the generation of waste throughout the district, and in case of waste generation, collecting the waste separately at its source and ensuring its recovery to production or economy. Especially with its efforts in recent years, Karatay Municipality, which has managed to become one of the leading municipalities of Turkey in this regard, also made a mention of its name in 2022. With the Zero Waste works carried out throughout the year and the collected wastes, 30 thousand trees were prevented from being cut down and an energy saving of over 10 million kw was achieved.

The ‘Zero Waste’ project initiated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's wife Emine Erdogan and carried out by the Ministry of Environmental Urbanization and Climate Change is also continuing with great success in Karatay.

IN 2022, 30 THOUSAND 473 TREES WERE PREVENTED FROM BEING CUT DOWN

Especially Karatay Municipality, which protects the environment and contributes to the economy and production with the works and projects carried out in recent years, is among the exemplary local governments of Turkey with this Decency. For this purpose, Karatay Municipality, which has provided informative trainings on Zero Waste in more than 42 thousand residences to date, continues all its activities throughout the district in the field of Zero Waste with a team of 37 people and 14 vehicles.

In this context, 2,990 tons of packaging waste was collected in the district in 2022. An average of 15 tons of textile waste is recycled into the economy with the Clothes, Shoes and Textile Products Recycling Bins established at 195 different points. Thanks to the collected wastes, 30 thousand 473 trees were prevented from being cut down, 356 thousand 450 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions were prevented, 1 million 240 thousand liters of fuel were saved. 10 million 213 thousand Kw energy savings were achieved and 50 thousand 200 cubic meters of water waste was prevented.

On the other hand, this important effort of Karatay Municipality within the scope of the “Zero Waste Action Plan and New Management” was also awarded by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change in 2020.

"ONE WASTE CHANGES A LOT”

With the “1 Waste Changes a Lot” waste collection competition organized by Karatay Municipality in order to create environmental awareness in future generations as well as to spread recycling even more throughout the district, 20 people who collected the most points were given bicycles as a gift.

215 contestants contributed to the recycling of a total of 9 tons 650 kilograms of waste by bringing waste to the Waste Collection Centers in front of Karatay Municipality and at Justice Park, Olympic Park, Traffic Education Park, Şehit Azam Güdendede Park for a week.

 WITH THE ”ZERO POINT OF WASTE", 2 TONS OF WASTE ARE COLLECTED PER DAY

Again, with the ”Zero Point of Waste" project, an average of 2 tons of waste is collected daily at waste collection centers located at points in Karatay. Within the scope of the “Zero Points of Waste” project, which started on June 5, World Environment Day, citizens who bring waste are given gifts in return. With the said project, 3 thousand 575 people have brought 286 thousand 515 kilograms of waste so far. 2 Thousand 680 gifts were given to the citizens who brought the wastes.

AWARENESS IS INCREASING WITH THE ZERO WASTE CHILDREN'S THEATER

With the Zero Waste Children's Theater project, a theater play was staged in order to raise awareness and awareness about Zero Waste to about 20 thousand students in elementary schools located throughout the district.  With the project carried out in about 30 schools, students are told about preventing waste, using resources more efficiently, methods of creating less waste, and ensuring that waste is recycled by separating it at the source in case of waste formation, with theatrical language and entertaining performances.

KARATAY MUNICIPALITY MEETS ITS ENERGY NEEDS FROM 2 SPP

2 solar power plants with a total capacity of 1.2 megawatts, which are among the environmentally friendly investments of Karatay Municipality, produce 2,500 MWh of energy every year and meet the lighting of all parks and facilities of the district, especially the municipal service building.  The municipality, which earns an average of 1.5 million pounds per year from both power plants, prevented greenhouse gas emissions exceeding 980 tons thanks to the facilities producing a total of one thousand 300 KW of power. On the other hand, the municipality has taken an important step towards the efficient use of the energy produced by equipping the roofs of the two indoor bazaars with solar energy panels.

WE ARE CARRYING KARATAY TO THE FUTURE WITH ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS

Stating that they are working to leave a much cleaner, greener and livable Karatay for future generations, Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca said that they are carrying Karatay to the future with many projects related to environmental and renewable energy.
